A certificate provided to individuals from ACT, that reflects they have received a high school equivalency that indicates their skills are equal to an individual that completed 12 years of secondary education and received a high school diploma. (this is a particular brand of equivalency)

Grade Point Average

The grade average of a college student. This is an indicator of overall performance and WIOA requires students to maintain an average of 2.5

High School Equivalency

Any certificate issued based on standardized testing indicates a person has met the academic competencies necessary to attain a high school diploma.

Leading Educators through Alternative Pathways (LEAP) is an intensive and innovative approach for a year-long alternative licensure program tailored to prepare teachers to be successful in New Mexico’s diverse classrooms. With the collaboration of stakeholders in education, LEAP was designed to be application-based, asking participants to immediately utilize strategies they learn, and is practitioner-focused, drawing heavily from teachers’ daily problems of practice. Thus, candidates will be required to work in a classroom setting as a teacher-of-record.

Specific Vocational Program

The amount of time required by a typical worker to learn the techniques, acquire the information, and develop the facility needed for average performance in a specific job-worker situation. For WIOA this translates into job zone classifications that determine the maximum number of training hours available to an OJT participant for a particular position.

Trade Adjustment Act

Legislation that allowed for trade between the US and other countries. In the workforce development system, it generally refers to funding available for retraining of individuals that have lost their jobs due to the company moving operations outside the US.
